Now that Paid Family Leave has been available for over two months now, let’s take a look at how New Yorkers have been using PFL.
Out of the gate, 89% of our PFL claims were for bonding leave in January – largely because 2017 Moms and Dads have been using their bonding leave before baby turns one:
- 54% of bonding leaves have been for 2017 births!
And a shout out to the Dads, who make up 20% of those bonding leaves.
A trend we’re observing now is that New Yorkers are starting to use Paid Family Leave for caregiving more. The number of care-giver leaves is increasing – while only 10% of our claims were for this type of leave in January, this number has climbed to 15% during February.
Stay tuned - we will continue to monitor interesting trends in PFL and provide updates!
