Effective January 1, 2018, Paid Family Leave (PFL) becomes a mandatory benefit in New York and will be implemented as a rider to our policyholder’s statutory short-term disability (DBL) policy – unless they self-fund or are exempt. Rest assured, all ShelterPoint policyholders with DBL contracts that are required to include PFL will automatically receive a PFL rider. We will be mailing the PFL rider to our policyholders after NY State approves our rider form.
The day the Paid Family Leave law was passed in 2016, ShelterPoint made a commitment to implement PFL and ensure a smooth transition for everyone involved – from brokers to policyholders and employees. Since then, we have been working diligently to achieve this goal because – as the industry leader in DBL – we’re all in for PFL. As we are getting closer to the official launch date, we want to give you a brief preview of what our customers and brokers can expect.
If you are a ShelterPoint DBL policyholder or broker you can get further details on this new page for Paid Family Leave.
Plus, we are excited to introduce our new PFL Premium Estimator Tool. This new calculator allows customers to estimate how much to expect PFL will cost, and helps to ensure employers are withholding the correct amount from their employees. We have more great tools, just like this one, coming soon - so make sure you’re signed up here to stay in the know as these get released.
As the industry leader and DBL expert, we’re your PFL expert as well. As we move closer to the Paid Family Leave implementation date and the final missing pieces are released/approved by NY State, we will continue to update these new pages with more detailed timelines. We look forward to working closely with all of our customers and brokers to ensure a smooth implementation of Paid Family Leave.
