As we approach the inaugural year of the Connecticut Paid Family & Medical Leave (CT PFML) program when benefits begin for Connecticut workers, there will be a new maximum employee contribution for CT PFML in 2022.
What is the maximum employee contribution for CT PFML in 2022?
The federal Social Security wage contribution cap, which determines the maximum CT PFML contribution, was updated for 2022. As a result, the wage base for PFML contribution purposes will be capped at $147,000 for calendar year 2022. This means that the updated maximum contribution to the state plan will be $735 per employee for 2022, up from $714 in 2021.
What counts as wages when calculating the state’s CT PFML contribution?
Wages used to determine earnings for FICA purposes are counted for the PFML contribution calculation and may include salary or hourly pay, vacation pay, holiday pay, tips, commissions, severance pay, and the cash value of any “in-kind” payments.
